Materials hunt

KS1 have been doing lots of work this term on everyday materials that we find around the home and in school. We have also been out to look for different materials outside. We have discovered wood, stone, concrete, rubber, metal, plastic and tarmac.

A Countryside Walk

This afternoon EYFS and Y1 went for a walk. We worked with a partner to find all the things on a list. We discovered various plants, bees, trees with different shaped leaves, dry stone walls and other things. It was nice to be out in the fresh air looking for different things in our surroundings.

An afternoon out

Children from Early Years and KS1 went out and about in the village today.  We looked for different types of houses we could find in the village (bungalows, terraced, semi detached and detached.)  We marked off on a sheet what we found and drew a picture of a house in the village.

We also played at the play-park in the sunshine and while we were there found Bog Baby, a creature from a story book who had gone missing earlier in the week.

Grounds Afternoon

Our ‘Grounds Day’ today was really productive.  We have been doing lots of jobs to make school look nicer, such as litter picking, planting flowers, weeding and sweeping.  It was a lovely sunny afternoon and we all worked really hard on our activities and enjoyed ourselves too.

What an exciting week!

We have had a really busy, fun week in KS1 and Reception.

As part of our geography work we have been for a walk around Lindale, spotting different places such as the shop, play park and church.  Then some ducklings came into school and we found out all about them and got to stroke them too!  After that Dave came in to make pizzas with us.  It was really messy fun and the pizzas smelled delicious, we took them home in pizza boxes to cook and eat.

Place value

Year 1 and 2 have been doing lots of work on place value this week.  Children have been using equipment to help them understand what the digits in two and 3 digit numbers represent.  Fantastic work!

Eco-School Non Uniform Day

Today the children came to school dressed in green, camouflage or plant patterns to raise money for Eco-School projects.

Many children also entered our ‘Decorate a Wellie’ competition.  The entries were fantastic, with a vast array of ideas and designs.  Thank you to all who took part and helped raise money towards the future development of some ‘nature areas’ in the school grounds.

Science Day

Today we celebrated Science and Engineering Week with a science day at school on the theme of  ‘Journeys’.  We worked in mixed age groups and moved around school to complete different science investigations with different teachers.  We looked at the journey of electricity by testing different objects and materials to see which were good conductors.  We found out about the journey of germs, how they can spread and infect people and ways to prevent the spread of germs.  The third activity was to make different types of aeroplane, glider and helicopter and look at the different ways they fly.

World Book Day

We all had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day.

The children wore some fantastic costumes to represent a huge variety of book characters.  Can you tell who they are?

Body Projects

Over the last couple of weeks the children have been presenting the ‘Body’ projects which they did for home learning over half term.  They have found out lots of new information and have produced a huge variety of projects; amazing pictures, collages, models, poems and investigations.  Well done children (and parents!) you have put a lot of time and effort into this work.
