Design Technology

Subject Leader: Mrs Law

At Lindale CE Primary School, we encourage pupils to ‘let their lights shine’ through learning skills and completing projects in design and technology.

We aim to develop knowledge and skills in design, structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical control and food. Design and Technology is taught using the Kapow Primary Scheme, with units being taught throughout school, providing progression in skills and knowledge.

Our aims:
Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in the process of designing, making and evaluating.
•Develop imaginative thinking and encourage children to talk about what they like and dislike when designing and making;
•Enable children to talk about how things work, and to draw and model their ideas;
•Encourage children to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, whilst following safe procedures;
•Explore attitudes towards the made world and how we live and work within it;
•Develop an understanding of technological processes, products, and their manufacture, and their contribution to our society;
•Children will also learn a crucial life skill through learning about nutrition and food. Pupils will be taught
how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. Instilling a love of cooking and choosing healthy options in our children
•To develop vocabulary and Oracy relevant to Design and Technology.
